NHS Cheshire and Merseyside August 2025 Blog
Tuesday, 19 August 2025

I want to begin by acknowledging the collective effort of frontline NHS colleagues to help minimise disruption and maintain care quality during the recent resident doctor strikes. I’d also like to thank Cheshire and Merseyside residents for continuing to use NHS services appropriately – your patience and understanding make a real difference.
Elsewhere, ongoing work to stabilise and strengthen the local NHS continues. While we are making real progress on delivering our financial recovery plan for 2025-26, this remains a significant challenge. As ever, working together on this remains a shared priority for all our partners.
With this in mind, it’s important for the public to play their part by planning ahead to avoid unnecessary pressures as we approach another bank holiday. If you rely on repeat prescriptions, please order them early so you have what you need over the long weekend.
If you or someone you care for needs urgent medical help while GP practices are closed, use NHS 111 – online or by phone – to ensure you get the right care in the right place.
Staying up to date with routine vaccinations, including the MMR and RSV vaccines, will also help protect you and your family while also ensuring that hospital beds are available for those who need them the most. Use the NHS App to check your GP health record and contact your GP practice if you have missed a vaccination to arrange a top-up.
Finally, as we enjoy the glorious summer weather, please take care in the heat and remember to stay hydrated, avoid spending too much time in the sun, and check in on those who may be more vulnerable.
Best wishes,
Cathy Elliott
